A beautiful1929 Ford Roadster with a 1932 grill, shell and frame that clocked 127 miles at the El Mirage Salt Flats in Nevada in 1952, will be awarded the Preservation Award Presented by Steele Rubber Products at the 2012 Meguiar’s Detroit Autorama, February 24-26 at Cobo Center. The award is given to the most outstanding car  with significant historic importance in original condition.

This treasured roadster has been passed down through three generations of the Pieknik family of Michigan. Frank Pieknik bought the car in 1948 at a Floyd Rice Ford lot in Detroit, Michigan. He had it transformed into a hot rod in California and the car, and Frank, quickly earned a stellar reputation throughout Michigan for racing and record breaking runs on the track, as well as for the distinctive chrome plating on the car.  Frank died, suddenly in an accident and the car was passed on to his 16 year old son Jack who kept, restored and cherished the car for the last 50 years. Just two years ago he passed it on to his son Scott of Clinton Township, Michigan.

Scott is looking forward to restoring the treasured hot rod to its chrome plated glory of the 1950’s.

The 2012 Preservation Award will be presented to the Pieknik family on Saturday morning, February 25 at Cobo Center during the Circle of Champions Brunch at Meguiar’s Detroit Autorama.
